Rudiren Sarma was born in Rose Hill, Mauritius. He received the BEng(Hons) degree from the University of Mauritius in 2002, and the MScEng degree and PhD  degree from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa in 2005 and 2013. He is registered as a Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa and also a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers IEEE. He is currently a Lecturer at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
